Corporate Health
Our Mission

Our Mission is to provide a comprehensive range of professional health care services in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

Corporate Health

Healthy employees are nearly three times more productive than employees with poor health, and employees who are generally unwell take as much as nine times more sick leave (Medicare 2005).

We offer the following service capabilities:

Drug and Alcohol Testing

Drug and Alcohol testing is becoming increasingly important in the workplace as the impact of alcohol and other recreational drug use can present a serious risk to health and safety.

Urine Drug and Alcohol Testing or Screening is conducted strictly in accordance with AS/NZS 4308:2008 procedures for specimen collection and detection.  Our practitioners are experienced to ensure end-to-end chain of custody and specimen integrity.

The initial testing procedures for these drugs generally involves an immunoassay. The NATA accredited test is simple and effective, with results visually interpreted within minutes.

As per AS/NZS4308:2008 requirements, any initial non-negative urine drug test result requires mandatory confirmatory testing at a NATA accredited laboratory who then provides a legally defensible confirmatory result in as quickly as 48-hours.

Benefits of Instant Urine Drug Testing :  Our instant testing services are NATA accredited (AS/NZ 4308:2008 - Appendix A) and we offer a quick turnaround time for results.   Instant testing offers an indicative non-negative or negative results in six class drugs including methamphetamines, cocaine, marijuana, opiates and benzodiazepines.  Additional Drug Testing:  Clients requiring testing for drugs of abuse other than those stated can discuss this with our medical practitioners.

Pre-Employment Medical Assessment

A Pre-Employment Medical Assessment is carried out to ensure an employee is fit to work in a specific environment, can fulfil the requirements of a role, can travel overseas and to protect them from potentially harmful work environments. It is recommended for new employees, existing employees who are transitioning roles as well as periodically to existing employees to compare ongoing health status of a work force in order to ensure that the employee’s capacity can continue to meet the needs of their duties and the workplace.

The significant benefits of our Pre-Employment Medical Assessment include:

 measurably reduces  workers’ compensation claims

improves mental focus, clarity, endurance and attention to detail as staff are appropriately matched to the physical requirements of the role that  they are required to complete.

increases retention of key staff members

detection of an existing injury before the commencement of employment

For a more comprehensive assessment, our Pre-Employment Medical Assessment can also be merged with our Drug and Alcohol Testing.

A standard Pre-Employment Medical Assessment includes testing for:

•    Blood pressure

•    Vision

•    Height

•    Weight

•    Urinalysis

•    Medical practitioner review of medical history questionnaire

•    Medical practitioner review of peripheral vision, oral, ear, respiratory, cardiovascular, abdominal, skin & basic musculoskeletal system

Audiometry Assessment (hearing test)

It is a statutory requirement under AS/NZS 1269.4:2005 for workers who use personal hearing protectors to undergo an Audiometry Assessment before they commence their role, and to continue to do so every two years. Our Pre-Employment Medical Assessments will provide a baseline hearing test to limit liability for future hearing loss claims, as well as monitor the impact of long-term noise exposure.

Musculoskeletal Assessment

A musculoskeletal assessment provides  an evaluation of the condition and function of a worker’s musculoskeletal health, lifting capabilities and any injuries that may impact on their ability to safely perform the inherent requirements of their job.

Spirometry Assessment (air flow)

A Spirometry Assessment measures the degree of airflow obstruction. This Assessment is often used to assess for asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and a number of other lung diseases.

Specialised Medicals

Many industries require specialised medicals which are tailored to suit the specific needs of the unique working environment. Please contact us to enquire whether our medical practitioners are able to offer a specialised medical assessment for your industry.

Skin Cancer Check

Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. In fact, 2 in 3 Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70 which is why it is important for workers to have their skin checked regularly (Sun Smart).

Our highly qualified and experienced medical practitioners conduct a full body skin cancer check. It takes about 10 – 15 minutes and has minimal disruption to the working day while addressing a key health risk for Australian employees.

Skin Cancer Screenings  are one of the most requested health services by employees and are cost effective for the employer. Our focus is on early detection and education so employees understand the importance of taking sun safe measures.

For a more comprehensive assessment, our Skin Cancer Screening can be merged with our Pre-Employment Medical Assessment and our Drug and Alcohol Testing

Flu Vaccination Clinics

We offer on-site flu vaccinations. Conducting an on-site flu vaccinations clinic saves lost work time and ensures greater staff participation as employees do not need to take time off to visit their own doctor. Flu viruses circulating in the community continually change, therefore yearly vaccination is recommended.

Our aim is to prevent the flu and associated illness. Our professional immunisation team of  medical professionals and registered nurses will visit your workplace at a time that suits you and your employees.

Flu Vaccinations helps protect your company and your employees.  Research shows healthy working adults vaccinated against flu have nearly half the number of doctor’s visits and sick days compared to those who are unvaccinated.

Importantly, by vaccinating your staff you not only protect yourself and your employees but you help to stop the spread of flu to families and the wider community.

We offer two models for delivering vaccinations

•    Onsite: Our professional immunisation team of medical professionals and registered Nurses will visit your workplace at a time and date convenient to you and your employees.

•    In-Clinic: the flu vaccination will occur in-clinic and take around 10 – 15 minutes.

If you would like more information about our flu vaccination program please get in contact with us by emailing reception@carinamedical.com.au

We are also able to offer highly competitive rates and discount pricing depending on the number of vaccinations purchased.

Q Fever Vaccinations

Our medical practitioners are accredited to provide Q Fever vaccinations.

Q Fever is a severe, acute febrile illness, which is a major problem in Australia and around the world. It is a zoonotic disease (i.e. spread from animals to humans) caused by the organism Coxiella burnetii.

Transmission to humans is generally via inhalation of contaminated aerosolized particles or ingestion of unpasteurized dairy products.

Q Fever is mainly thought to be an occupational hazard, but anyone who has been in contact with farm animals, or wild animals and their products, may be at risk.  Approximately 40% of people exposed to Coxiella burnetii develop Acute Q Fever.  In most cases the acute illness lasts 2–6 weeks and of this group, approximately 10–30% will develop Chronic Q Fever which can last beyond one year and frequently more than 5–10 years.

Q Fever vaccinations involves two stages:

During the first consultation a Q Fever skin test and Blood test will be undertaken

After one week there is a review appointment where Q Fever vaccination will be administered if required.

If you would like more information about our Q Fever Vaccinations please get in contact with us by emailing reception@carinamedical.com.au.
